This blog is not about me, but I suppose I do need some credibility to get like minded individuals to read what I have to say. Regardless of my credentials, what I have to say is interesting and real, it is business uncensored.
I am a white South African male with an extremely privaleged ubringing. When I say privelaged I’m not talking about pocket money and a new pair of shoes – I mean really privelaged! When I was a kid, I got whatever I wanted.
I went through the Jewish private schooling system at King David from nursery school to matric. That’s over 12 years of business school! Tuck shop money wasn’t to buy food, it was for betting and trading. School breaks were like a boardroom. I loved my school days.
At school I excelled. I played rugby, cricket and soccer, got distinctions and was a school prefect.
After school I attempted to study a BCom. I just couldn’t get into it. My mind wasn’t right. Dropped out of it and went to meet my buddies in London for a gap year
I came back the following year and registered for a BCom. This was the best thing for me because it allowed me time to cultivate my entrepreneurial flair. I started businesses many small businesses to earn extra cash. None of it really came off but HEY! An extra 5k a month when you are 20 years old is king!
I finished my BCom and attempted an honours course in investment. It didn’t get me going so I went and got a job in e-commerce world.
What a ride! In the time I was there I grew from part time marketing asisstant (earning 3k a month) to company GM. The whole ride took me 2 years! We grew from 18 employees (when I started) to over 130.
That business grew into one of South Africa’s biggest and best e-commerce businesses.
After 3 years there I got a hold of my best mate, and we started my current business. That business is now cooking and has been running for over 2 years. I would love to punt my business but this is not the place.
I just wanted to gather a little bit of credibility…
I have a passion for information, particulary business information. The main driver of that passion is the belief that with the right information, I can profit.
My daily business reads in South Africa are MoneyWeb, Fin24, and Business Day and then I am an avid listener to The World at 6 on 702.
I read FinWeek, Financial Mail and Noseweek regularly and I often watch CNBC when I have the time.
To be completely honest, I still find myself lacking a certain type of information – almost an insiders view on the happenings in the business community in South Africa.
I am looking for insider information, information about great things companies are doing as well as terrible things. I want views on share positions as well as any business that can make profits.
This blog is a forum just for that!
